Civil Eng Lab

Several core courses are designed to include laboratory component. The laboratory work consists of experimental and testing works are designed to expose students to the essential problem solving through experimental techniques. Most of the generic attributes that the students must develop during the University life are partially acquired through the laboratory experimental work. The laboratory work for the part-time programme is conducted during short semester every year. All civil engineering laboratory courses are carried out at the Civil Engineering Laboratory, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai. This laboratory course will take 2 to 3 weeks depending on the number of students registered. Every experiment has to be carried out in a group of six students on average. In an attempt to improve the competency of the students, certain laboratory work, such as concrete mix design, is designed to suite the Outcome Based Education (OBE) requirement for the open ended lab. This will allow students to be more independent on performing the laboratory experiment. An open-ended experiment is also introduced in one of the experimental work (design mix for concrete) in the Civil Engineering Laboratory III (SKAA3011).
