Master of Science (Software Engineering)

 

PROGRAM BACKGROUND

This is full guided research Master program designed for candidates who wish to obtain knowledge, skills and expertise in Software Engineering theories and able to apply them to produce high quality software and to propose new or improved software engineering techniques, methods and tools. Program will train graduate to produce creative ideas and critical thinking to advance knowledge and share them with other researchers, academicians and industry.

PROGRAM EDUCATION OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this programme, student is expected to:

  1. To produce graduates who are capable to creatively and systematically use the advanced software engineering approaches and standards in ensuring the quality of software process and product. (software process, QA, and project management)
  2. To produce graduates who are capable to analytically apply the state-of-the-art software engineering techniques, methods, and tools in the research and development (R&D) project of software-intensive systems. (advanced software technology)
  3. To produce innovative graduates who passes detailed and in-depth software engineering knowledge, strong theoretical foundation, and capable to acquire new or extended knowledge. (knowledge scholarship, research skills, and life-long learning)
  4. To produce graduates who are capable to effectively communicate and responsibly participate in a team and with experts in the related fields. (leadership & teamwork, communications)
  5. To produce graduates who are capable to demonstrate consistent professional ethics with high integrity.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

  • Degree in Computer Science from UTM or equivalent with at least CGPA : 3.00 OR
  • Candidates with CGPA < 3.00 with at least 2 years working experience in related area.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

All students who are applying to UTM:

  • Must have a valid two years certificate in TOEFL or IELTS

Students will be enrolled in a faculty programme without undergoing UTM English courses, if:

  • TOEFL score: 550 (or 79 IBT) OR
  • IELTS band: Band 6

Starting from Semester II 2010/2011,class will be teaching in English as a Second Language. So they must have:

  • A valid two years certificate of TOEFL with a score 600 and above OR
  • IELTS: band 7 and above (or IBT/CBT equivalent)
However, students with:

  • Low or without IELTS (Academic) OR
  • Without IELTS/TOEFL OR
  • Who will sit for the UTM English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT)
Will have these options:

  1. Attend and Complete Intensive English Course (IEC) – Low Intermediate<
  2. Attend and Complete Intensive English Course (IEC) – Intermediate
  3. Attend and Complete IELTS Preparatory Course (IPC)
