Recently, FCEE has appointed the new head of laboratories, Dr Mohd Nazri Mohd Sokri and Dr Zulhairun Abdul Karim. Here are brief profile about them :

dr nazri

Dr Nazri is currently the Head of Laboratory (Service Division) at the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.  He started his career as a chemical engineer at IOI Pan-Century Oleochemicals Sdn. Bhd. before joining Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as a tutor in Oct 2009. He received his B.Eng (Chemical-Gas) and MSc. (Petroleum Engineering) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in 2008 and 2012 respectively. He  completed his doctoral degree at Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Yuji Iwamoto. His research interests focus on organic/inorganic materials for gas separation and wastewater treatment.

FCEE Service Laboratory composed of Central Store (Stor Pusat) and Workshop (Bengkel)located at N08, and Heavy Work Laboratory (Makmal Kerja Berat) and are located at N10. The laboratories provides technical and non-technical services related to research activities to all faculty members. The laboratory staff strive to provide the best service possible, with the highest regards to quality and customer satisfaction.

Zulhairun Abdul Karim is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FCEE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Zulhairun obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from UTM in 2011, and then pursued his PhD in Gas Engineering. During his study, he was actively involved in an academia-industry research project developing novel membrane material for CO2 removal. Right after his PhD graduation in 2014, he was appointed as a Visiting Junior Researcher, and then he was awarded with Postdoctoral Fellowship in Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), UTM. He joined the Energy Department as academic teaching staff in mid-2015, serving Nuclear Engineering Program, while actively involved with numerous research activities in AMTEC as a research fellow. In AMTEC, he holds the responsibility as the Corporate Affairs Manager. On top of that, he plays the role as the Advisor of Nuclear Engineering Student Society (NESS). He is also an associate member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (AMIChemE). His research interests mainly centered on nano-enabled membrane technology developed for gas separation and water purification. Despite of his short career span, he has published several scientific publications in high impact factor international refereed journals and book chapters.

He is currently the head of laboratories for basic engineering laboratories. Basic Engineering Laboratory (Makmal Kejuruteraan Asas) located in N21 is equipped with high-end experimental apparatuses provided to the undergraduates to complement the engineering principles learned from the class room towards practical implementation. It is hoped that the laboratory would continuously serve the students and help to produce highly skilled chemical engineers for the future.

We would like to congratulate both Dr. Nazri and Dr. Zulhairun for the appointment and we believe that both of you will do an excellent job. Any inquiries regarding their laboratories you can contact them at:
